Jes McGinley has an eye for design, and it gets pretty personal! This beautiful artist works to create pieces that are very close to the hearts of her customers ranging from wedding day drawings to perfect pooch sketches. She has the uncanny ability to take multiple images and ideas and combine those to a most perfect, keepsake product. I got to know more about her and what she offers here:
When did your interest in art begin?
I mean I was always into crafts while I was little, but I didn’t start actually drawing drawing until 7th grade art class. I noticed I was actually pretty good haha! I got really into it in high school and earned a scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design. After college, I ended up getting a web design job and pretty much stopped drawing because LIFE. It wasn’t until I got engaged that my drawing obsession came back to me!
When did you know you wanted to start your own business JesMarried?
I proposed to my bridal party with a drawing of the five of us at a dinner with all of them. It was the way I got to announce who was in my party as well as what color dresses I wanted them in! THEY are the ones to actually tell me I had something here and urged me to start an Etsy shop! I started JesMarried in late 2015 but didn’t touch the shop until after my wedding in September of 2016!
What type of services do you offer?
I specialize in weddings, however I didn’t want to limit my business to only brides! That’s when I decided to add on the moments that follow after a wedding. Some of the wedding products I offer are bridesmaid proposal drawings, mother of the bride drawings, signature cocktail and cupcake flavor signs! Some of the lifestyle related products are our first home drawings and pup portraits!
Do you draw all of your amazing works from photos? Or are your bride (or puppy dog, fancy door) models ever live?
Everything comes from a photo. It is not required that they come from one particular photo though. I merge ideas and inspiration from many photos! Most of my work for weddings are drawn before the big day so the bride may not actually have their professional photos back yet, so this really makes for a personalized, really thoughtful gift on the day of the wedding!
Have you ever been struck with inspiration upon seeing something and just HAD to sketch it?
I’m actually not really a huge sketchbook artist!! If I get inspiration, I love writing it down and describing it for me to later go back to!
Do you/have you worked with other small businesses?
I LOVE working with small businesses and would LOVE to work with more. Mutts & Co is one of the most recent! Every Monday we post one of my drawings of an adoptable dog available in Ohio! I’ve also had an idea for a while that I think would pair so well with a small bakery or brewery... so hit me up if you’re curious
Who is in your “Girl Gang” and/or who would you add to your dream Girl Gang?
Omg, I can’t go without saying my bridal party is my girl gang. I mean they gave me the idea to get this all started!! My dream girl gang is definitely Jenna Kutcher. I credit a lot of my growth this year to her podcast and the people I have met through her Facebook group!!
How can people order your creations?
You can place an order through my Etsy shop JesMarried.com or through email firstname.lastname@example.org
